How to Make a Vibrant Rainbow Pizza!

Howdy! Fancy jazzing up your pizza night with a splash of colour? Well, you’re in for a treat because this rainbow pizza is fun, vibrant, and surprisingly easy to make. Perfect for a family dinner, party snack, or just because you feel like creating something a bit bonkers. Let’s dive into it, shall we?

Step 1: Getting That Dough Started & CHEESE DYED

First things first, we need to whip up our dough. It’s super simple to put together – get the yeast going in a jug with the warm water and sugar, leave it for 15 minutes to bubble up a little bit. Then into a large mixing bowl mix in your flour and salt until it forms a nice, smooth dough. Give it a good knead for about 8-10 minutes until it’s lovely and elastic. Think of it as a mini workout – bonus points for burning calories before you eat the pizza!

Divide the dough up into 6 even portions using scales. Now in separate bowls dye the cheese with the colours you want to use and knead again, do this carefully to not get food dye all over you! Repeat with all 6 dough balls, cover and leave to rise for an hour for each one. This will look pretty cool, it takes a while, but patience, my friends, good things come to those who wait.

In fact, you’ve got work to do! Divide the cheese into 6 bowls and dye them each with the food dyes you’ve got to correspond with the dough colours! Leave until needed (or kneaded!).

Step 2: Building Your Rainbow Base

Time to turn this dough into a work of art. Roll each coloured piece into a strip, then line them up side-by-side on a sheet of parchment paper. Overlap the edges slightly and press them together gently – you don’t want them falling apart later. It’ll look like a big rainbow! Now use a pizza cutter to help or just shape it into a rainbow pizza shape. Using a well floured rolling pin and surface to help as you go.

Step 3: Pile on the Toppings & BaKE

I just went for a cheese topping, thinking that sauce would hide the rainbow. With your pizza shaped top the same colour cheese on top of the dough, then add pepperoni or whatever toppings you are using.

Pre-heat your pizza oven or indoor oven – the pizza oven will cook in a couple of minutes at 400°C, but an indoor oven 220°C would be optimal temp (basically super hot), bake away until you are happy with the look and consistency, try to lightly brown the cheese if possible! An indoor oven could take up to 10-15 mins.

Step 5: Slice, Serve, and Enjoy

Let the pizza cool for a minute (I know, it’s hard to wait!) and then slice it up. That first cut is so satisfying as the colourful cross-section is revealed. Serve it up and watch everyone’s faces light up – it’s an edible rainbow, after all! Wahey! Dad joke!

Barry’s Top Tips

  • Use gel food colouring for bold, bright colours – liquid dyes tend to be a bit wishy-washy.
  • If you’re feeling adventurous, try mixing up the toppings. Veggies like peppers or red onion add even more colour!
  • This dough recipe is a great all-rounder – keep it in your back pocket for regular pizzas too, I also made a black pizza with a similar one.

There you have it, folks – a rainbow pizza that’s just as fun to make as it is to eat. Whether you’re looking to impress at a party or just add a bit of joy to your day, this recipe is a guaranteed hit. Give it a go and let me know how you get on. Don’t forget to tag me in your colourful creations – I’d love to see them!
