I have been sent lots of requests to try out TikTok recipes over the last few Months. I’ve tried TikTok, I don’t get it, but I think the food I saw was pretty fun to attempt so decided to pick 4 viral recipes that seemed quite interesting – a toasterdilla (a quesadilla made in a toaster), the 2 ingredient Oreo cake, an epic breakfast sandwich with an omelette inside it & some extremely intense dalgona coffee! Some were better than others, but was certainly a good experience attempting them! So here’s how to make them….
Toasterdilla
For this grab your tortilla and place two cheese slice squares in the middle, one above the other. If using grated cheese you can make thin square shapes instead. Fold over the sides of the tortilla onto the cheese, overlapping so it covers the cheese, then fold upwards between the two cheese slices so you have a little wallet of cheese….. the video shows this step best. Toast for 90 seconds or so, or until the outside is charred, remove carefully and then unfold the tortilla and fold it in the opposite direction to before to expose the non toasted side. Toast again until charred and allow to cool! This worked well, just be careful not to overload the tortilla.
2 ingredient oreo cake
Bash the oreos in a bag with a rolling pin until fine crumbs are achieved. Alternatively, place them into a food processor. Add the oreo crumbs with the milk into a mug, stir to combine briefly, then microwave for 90 seconds. Allow to cool and you should be left with a very simple 2 ingredient microwave oreo cake!
Breakfast sandwich
First beat the eggs together in a bowl with a whisk and season with the salt and pepper. Add a knob of butter to a frying pan and melt it gently, working it around the pan. When it is bubbling pour in the egg mixture. Dunk both bread slices in the egg, let it absorb then flip them both over into the egg to coat the other sides and leave them there whilst the egg cooks.
Keep cooking the egg like an omelette, once done use a large spatula and lift the bread slices flipping them over so the omelette is facing upwards. Again the video shows this best! Top one slice of bread with the ingredients you are using like cheese and ham, bring the sides of the omelette in over the bread slice then carefully flip over the other half of bread to seal all the ingredients in. This should look like one major sandwich with an omelette wedged inside now! Warm it through to melt the cheese as needed then tip out onto a board ready to gobble up! Gorgeous and really surprised me!
Pinch of salt and pepper
2 slices of bread
2 slices of ham
Handful of grated cheddar cheese
Dalgona coffee
For the coffee, add the 3 ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Briefly mix together to merge then grab an electric whisk & whisk away for a good 10 minutes at the very least and watch as it changes from a dark coffee mixture, gradually getting lighter in colour until it thickens like a meringue! Once you are at that stage it should hold soft peaks, pour the milk into a glass either hot or cold and add ice if you wish before dolloping the intense coffee mixture on top!
