I wanted to set myself the challenge of seeing what would happen if I tried adding well known fizzy drinks – such as Coca Cola and Sprite to roast potatoes and it yielded some pretty interesting results! This was based on a video I saw for Fanta potatoes.

How to make fizzy drink roast potatoes

For all of these recipes you need to parboil the potatoes, so peel them, cut them into even sizes and cook them in water with a little salt, simmering for 10 mins until softened, drain off and dry.

Note: For the Mountain Dew roast potatoes cook in water with some spinach and some of the spinach leaves whizzed up in a blender with a little water to make a paste. For the Dr Pepper ones, boil in the wine with water combined and the beetroot halves / stems.

Sprite Roast Potatoes

With the potatoes cooked and dried, add in a pan with a little oil, the garlic pepper and turmeric, stir to coat all over, then pour over the stock and sprite in a pan covering the potatoes halfway up. Roast at 200fan/220c for approx 45 minutes, checking and turning if needed, brushing with any excess pan juices before they evaporate / more oil if you wish for charring. Finish with pepper and some fresh lemon and lime zest.

Cola Roast Potatoes

With the potatoes cooked and dried, add in a pan with a little oil, crumble on the oxo cubes (stock cubes), stir to coat all over, then pour over the stock and cola in a pan covering the potatoes halfway up drop in the rosemary sprigs. Roast at 200fan/220c for approx 45 minutes, checking and turning if needed, brushing with any excess pan juices before they evaporate / more oil if you wish for charring. Finish with pepper and extra oxo cube if you wish.

Red Bull Roast Potatoes

With the potatoes cooked and dried, add in a pan with a little oil, add the paprika stir to coat all over, then pour over the stock and red bull in a pan covering the potatoes halfway. Roast at 200fan/220c for approx 45 minutes, checking and turning if needed, brushing with any excess pan juices before they evaporate / more oil if you wish for charring. Finish with pepper.

Mountain Dew Roast Potatoes

With the potatoes cooked and dried add in the spinach drained off too and stir well to coat, do this in a pan with a little oil, add in the oregano and brush with food colouring if using, stir all over, then pour over the stock and Mountain Dew in a pan covering the potatoes halfway up. Roast at 200fan/220c for approx 45 minutes, checking and turning if needed, brushing with any excess pan juices before they evaporate / more oil if you wish for charring. Finish with pepper.

Dr Pepper Roast Potatoes

With the potatoes cooked in the wine and dried, mix together the beetroot, potatoes and allspice to coat evenly, do this in a pan with a little oil, then pour over the stock and Dr Pepper in a pan covering the potatoes halfway up. Roast at 200fan/220c for approx 45 minutes, checking and turning if needed, brushing with any excess pan juices before they evaporate / more oil if you wish for charring.
