Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

by Barry Lewis

Ingredients

300 ml milk (1.3 cups)
25g granulated sugar (1/8 cup)
150g baking chocolate (1 cup)
1 tsp vanilla extract
red food colour to your liking
marshmallows optional

In this video recipe I’ll show you how to make an extremely simple red velvet hot chocolate – it’s super quick and extremely delicious!

Start off by warming up the milk in a saucepan over the hob, tip in the sugar and gently bring the mixture to a simmer whisking dissolving the sugar also.

Next up add in your chocolate, bash it up into small bits to make it easier to manage the drop into the pan of warm milk, again whisk through until dissolved. This step should not take too long and it should be a lovely creamy consistency.

Add some flavour by dropping in the vanilla extract, then tip in the food colouring (I used 2 teaspoons of it) to get it a lovely deep dark red colour! Keep the mixture warm in the pan and meanwhile bake marshmallows on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Let them expand and spread then cut with a heart shaped cookie cutter.

Pour the hot chocolate mix into your drinking device of choice, slide the marshmallow on top and your super simple red velvet hot chocolate recipe is all done!

Enjoy folks and if you want to turn this red velvet hot chocolate slightly lighter colour try adding a little white chocolate to the mixture too!
