When we headed to Florida, there was certainly no shortage of food and despite the stereotypical ‘fast food’ mindset, I think there are definitely some healthier options around over there now, especially using the delivery apps…. anyhow, I have no idea why I wrote that, but, I did find options a lot better. With that being said though Olive Garden, a well known chain over there, may not be the healthiest, but they certainly do have some nice options.

The restaurant brings out breadsticks, which I think could have been unlimited that were crazy good. You might remember I recently did a Outback Steakhouse Rye Bread clone which was delicious! Well, this is similar and Chloe (despite being dairy free) loved these jumbo garlic butter slathered breadsticks. So in the video & in the method just switch the butter to a dairy free alternative and you’ll be fine. So, here’s how to make homemade Olive garden breadsticks… oh and if you like this you make like these Outback Steakhouse honey wheat breads!

Homemade Olive Garden Breadsticks

First up get your dough working. In a jug combine the butter, water, sugar and yeast, stir and leave for a few minutes to get the yeast going. It should be a little foamy on top.

In a large bowl combine ¾ of the flour with the buttery jug mixture, and start to knead it together. Adding the rest of the mixture, then the salt and keep kneading away until fully combined. If it’s a bit sticky add some more flour, if it’s too dry add a touch more water, you want it tacky.

Lightly oil a new bowl, place the dough in, cover in cling film and leave for 90 mins to rise in a warm place.

Once risen divide the dough into 10 pieces and roll out using extra flour if needed (kneaded, wahey!) into approx. 7 inch long logs, they will approx. double in size so spread them out on a lined baking tray well. Cover again with a damp tea towel and leave to double in size for an hour in a warm spot again. Of course you can do a slow prove in the fridge overnight if you wish to develop the flavours instead.

Bake for approx. 15 mins at 400f/200c/180fan/6 until golden, rotating if needed. To serve mix together the salt and garlic powder whilst they are baking and when ready brush the breadsticks whilst still warm with the melted butter and sprinkle the garlic salt mix on top to taste. Do this as close to eating them as possible. Enjoy!
