Have you ever wanted to make a dog friendly cake? Maybe you want to try and make a birthday cake for a dog or surprise your pooch with a baked delicacy! Here’s how to make a dog cake that is actually suitable for humans too! We found this really fun to make and it’s also very quick and simple!

So here’s how to make your dog friendly cake….

Pre-heat your oven to gas mark 4 or equivalent – see temperature conversion charts

Grease and line 2 small round cake tins and leave to one side.

Because it is a dog recipe we can be pretty ‘ruff’ with this, no sifting flour or any of that jazz needed…. my dogs eat grass for example, they are not fussy.

Mix together all of the wet ingredients for the cake batter at first into a bowl – essentially everything except the flour and soda, keep mixing until a relatively smooth yet consistent mixture is formed.
Next up, add in the soda and flour, fold through until combined and well merged – we found this to be a little thick, but keep pursuing with it. Push evenly into the 2 cake tins and bake for 25-30 minutes until lightly browned, it may have a bit of a ‘ruff’ (sorry) feel to it, the mix does resemble a scone a little bit, but it’s ok honest – or you can just add a little more oil next time. Trust me the dogs will love it.

Leave to cool on a wire rack and level off one of the cakes for the lower sponge if needed. Meanwhile mix together the yoghurt and the peanut butter until smooth in a bowl to create the icing. Use this to fill the cake in the middle to sandwich the sponges and on top of the cake also.

Decorate with dog treats if you wish. Serve in moderation and store like any other cake.
