Upgrading Random Snacks I Found in My Kitchen

Sometimes you find a few random snacks knocking about the kitchen and think, “Yeah, I could just eat that… or I could do something ridiculous with it.” That’s exactly what happened here.

In this episode of Barry Tries, I took six random snacks I had lying around the house and attempted to upgrade them. Some of them turned out amazing. Others… not so much. One of them nearly broke my siphon. But that’s all part of the fun, right?

What’s in the Video?

Here’s a breakdown of the six snack-based “recipes” I tried to upgrade — with brutally honest results.

1. Ice Cream Sandwiches Using Digestives

These were an absolute winner. I sandwiched softened ice cream between Digestive biscuits, cut them into neat rounds with a cookie cutter, and they looked like something from a dessert menu. Ridiculously simple, but genuinely brilliant.

2. Gummy Sweet Ice Cubes

This one looked fun, but it didn’t really land. I froze gummy sweets in lemonade thinking they’d slowly flavour the drink. What actually happened was they sort of melted into jelly blobs, slowly disintegrating into the glass. Not terrible, but not great either.

3. Wotsit Foam

Complete disaster. I tried to make a savoury foam by infusing Wotsits into milk and cream, blending it, and running it through an N₂O siphon. It came out far too thick and mousse-like, clogged the siphon, and was generally a cheesy mess. The foam dream was over before it began.

4. Crisp-Infused Oil on Popcorn

This was a surprise hit. I steeped crisps in hot oil, strained them out, and drizzled the flavoured oil over freshly popped popcorn. It worked brilliantly — full of flavour, easy to do, and genuinely made the popcorn feel upgraded. Might actually do this again on movie night.

5. Pot Noodle Spring Rolls

These were class. I wrapped cooked Pot Noodle in spring roll pastry and deep-fried them until crispy. I added a bit of grated carrot, which gave the filling more depth and texture. Crunchy, salty, a bit of chew – probably the most legit upgrade of the lot.

6. Laughing Cow Cheese Mousse

This took a couple of tries to get right. I whisked Laughing Cow triangles with milk to make a mousse. Eventually, I got there — it turned into a soft, spreadable cheese dip. But honestly, I think the Cow was the one having the last laugh. Weirdly tasty, just a bit too weird.

Why Upgrade Snacks?

We all have snacks sitting around – half-eaten packets, leftovers from a movie night, or random things you forgot were in the back of the cupboard. This video was all about seeing if I could take those basics and turn them into something fun, possibly even impressive.

It’s not about being serious or chef-y – it’s about having a laugh in the kitchen, seeing what works, and what definitely doesn’t. And sometimes, you might just discover a new favourite (looking at you, Pot Noodle spring rolls).
