Testing Kitchen Hacks with My Wife – Including a Chocolate Hand?!

by Barry Lewis

Right then – in this video, my wife and I are back in the kitchen testing out a fresh batch of kitchen hacks to see if they actually work… or go completely wrong! There’s a real mix of ideas this time, from clever to completely bonkers – including one where we made a chocolate mould of my actual hand. Yep. That happened.

We tested six different hacks in total, all with varying levels of success (and mess). Here’s a quick rundown of what we tried:

  • Thermos frankfurters – Add hot water and frankfurters into a thermos flask, seal it up and let it do its thing. Simple, surprisingly effective, and great for on-the-go!

  • Pepper slicing hack – Sent in by a viewer called Annie (thank you!), this one stops your pepper bits flying everywhere and gives you a neater, faster way to slice.

  • Strawberry marshmallow mystery – Not entirely sure what this one’s called, but you microwave marshmallows, wrap them around strawberries and freeze them. Oddly brilliant and tasty.

  • Ironed potato shapes – We attempted to make patterns on thinly sliced potatoes using foil and an iron. It didn’t quite go to plan, but at least the potatoes cooked!

  • Toaster tortilla puff – A trick that’s meant to make tortillas puff up like pockets when toasted. We gave it a go, but couldn’t quite get it to work – even in a frying pan.

  • The chocolate hand – A total wildcard. We froze my hand, poured melted chocolate over it, and tried to create a mould. Bit of a laugh, but it actually kind of worked!

Some of these kitchen hacks were genuinely clever, others were just plain fun to try. It’s always a good laugh putting them to the test – especially when they’re sent in by you lot!
