Testing 4 Viral TikTok Recipes – Malibu Pineapple Tin & More

TikTok has brought us some of the most interesting (and sometimes questionable) food trends, so I decided to put a few of them to the test. In this latest experiment, I attempted four viral TikTok recipes, including the much-talked-about Malibu Pineapple Tin. Do these recipes live up to the hype, or are they just social media gimmicks? Let’s find out.

(Watch the full video here or above for my final verdict!)

The Viral TikTok Recipes I Tested

Here’s a breakdown of the four recipes featured in this video, along with how to make them.

1. Malibu Pineapple Tin

This TikTok trend is as simple as it sounds: pour Malibu rum straight into a tin of drained pineapple chunks and let the magic happen. The idea is that the pineapple absorbs the rum, creating an instant tropical cocktail. But does it actually taste good, or is it just a shortcut to a boozy disaster?

How to Make It:

  • Open a tin of pineapple chunks, remove the the juice inside with the help of a sieve.
  • Pour a generous amount of Malibu rum directly into the tin all the way to the top.
  • Let it sit in the fridge overnight or for up to 24 hours.
  • Enjoy chilled straight from the tin or serve over ice!

2. Pizza French Toast

This one caught my attention because it combines two classic comfort foods – pizza and French toast. It involves soaking hot dog buns in an egg and milk mixture, frying them, they are layered with pizza sauce, cheese, and… well, whatever you like! It’s essentially a crispy, cheesy hybrid of pizza and toast. But is it worth the effort?

How to Make It:

  • Slice hot dog buns or bread rolls in 1 inch segment lengthwise.
  • In a bowl, whisk together egg, milk, and oregano.
  • Build the ‘pizzas’ – spread sauce on a face side of bread, top with cheese and other ingredients
  • Spread sauce on another slice of bread, place on top to make a sandwich.
  • Dip each mini sandwich into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
  • Melt butter in a frying pan and cook the bread on both sides until golden, use a lid to act as an oven and reduce splashing if you like.
  • Serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dunkage!

3. Parmesan Carrots

Carrots aren’t exactly known for being indulgent, but this recipe claims to turn them into an irresistible side dish. With a mix of parmesan, garlic, olive oil, and spices, these roasted carrots promise a crispy, flavourful upgrade. Could this be the next big food trend, or should we stick to fries?

How to Make It:

  • Preheat the oven to 220C (180Fan) or equivalent
  • Wash and slice carrots into sticks or chunks, I like sticks!
  • In a bowl, mix carrots with the olive oil, parmesan, garlic, and seasonings and parsley.
  • On a chopping board grate parmesan all over it, dunk the carrots in and place them on a lined baking tray also covered in grated parmesan.
  • Roll well to coat fully in parmesan, then grate cheese all over one more time to rain parmesan all over them!
  • Roast for 25-30 minutes, it’ll be browned, bubbling and crispy!
  • When you remove from the oven, let it cool for a moment, then turn over with a spatula to drape the parmesan on top!

4. Matcha Martini

Matcha and cocktails aren’t an obvious pairing, but TikTok insists they belong together. This drink blends vodka, matcha, white crème de cacao, and simple syrup, creating a rich, earthy cocktail with a hint of sweetness. A sophisticated upgrade or a failed experiment?

How to Make It:

  • Brew matcha by whisking matcha powder with hot water, then let it cool.
  • In a shaker, add ice, vodka, white crème de cacao (or other chocolate liqueur if using like me), and simple syrup.
  • If you are making sugar syrup warm the water and sugar together in a pan, stirring often, bring to a simmer and let cool. You’ll have loads left!
  • Pour in the cooled matcha and shake well until chilled.
  • Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a pinch of matcha powder.
