Pizza Burger

by Barry Lewis

Ingredients

2 good quality burger buns

2 quarter pounder burgers

2tbsp passata

Handful cheddar cheese

2 slices of mozzarella plus extra for topping pizza buns

Chorizo slices

Freshly grated parmesan

4 mushrooms, sliced

1 red onion, sliced

Salt and pepper

This could be one of the best burgers I have ever tasted! It’s essentially a fusion or hybrid of 2 very popular foods – pizza and a burger, it’s a pizza burger!

Start off by getting a decent quality burger bun like brioche or a pretzel one, slice it in half and spread a couple of teaspoons of passata onto each bun. Sprinkle on some grated cheddar and then rip up some mozzarella and spread all over. Add slices of chorizo or pepperoni if you wish before baking on a try for 15-20 minutes or until melted at gas mark 4 or equivalent (see temperature conversion charts).

Meanwhile fry up in a pan with a drop of vegetable oil the sliced mushrooms and onion strips, cook them up until well caramelised and charred leaving in a bowl to one side. Leave the pan hot and cook a quarter pounder burger to package instructions until well browned all over and fully cooked through. Sprinkle a few teaspoons of parmesan on top of the burger, pile in some of the mushroom onion mixture and place a slice of mozzarella on top of the burger patty. Place a lid on top of the frying pan to help the cheese melt around the burger. Season with salt and pepper and rest on kitchen towel.

The burger is built sitting the patty in between the two pizza half buns – absolutely gorgeous! You must give this a go!
