When I first saw electric lunchboxes online, I had no idea what to expect. Could they actually keep food hot? Could they cook from scratch? Or were they just another overhyped gadget?
In this electric lunchbox review, I tested three completely different models — and yes, one of them cost £130!
The 3 Electric Lunchboxes I Tested
I went for a mix of budget, mid-range, and full-blown luxury:
-
Travelisimo Electric Lunchbox – A simple plug-in option that works from the mains or your car’s cigarette lighter. Basic, but cheap at £18.99.
Check it out on Amazon -
GameXop Cordless Electric Lunchbox – At £95.99, this one has its own battery, an insulated carry case, and even charges your phone.

Heatsbox Go – A £130 premium lunchbox you can control with an app. It heats between 55°C and 85°C, but the battery life gives you just enough for one meal.

How I Tested Them
To keep things fair, I used the same meal in each: a simple chilli and rice combo. Each lunchbox was tested under real-world conditions – one in my car, one indoors on mains power, and one left to its own battery.
I was looking at:
-
Heat performance
-
Portability
-
Ease of use
-
Charging/battery
-
Whether you could actually cook (or maybe even toast) food inside
The Results
Without giving everything away if you haven’t seen the video yet – there were some real surprises, especially with how hot (or not) some of them got. The cheapest one did better than I expected, and the most expensive one… well, let’s just say I’m not sure I’d use it daily but I did get a dodgy one.
Should You Buy an Electric Lunchbox?
If you’re commuting, working on the road, or just fancy keeping your food hot without using a microwave, these gadgets can actually be super useful. But make sure you pick one that fits your needs — not just the most expensive one.

Final Thoughts
This electric lunchbox review showed me that sometimes the simple option wins. But if you’re into your gadgets (and like the idea of an app-connected lunchbox), there’s definitely something here for you.
Which one would you use — the budget one, the techy mid-ranger, or the app-powered beast? Let me know what you think!
